Abstract

A detailed study of the footprints (footwear prints) detected during the review of the scene allows you to understand the anatomical features of the offender, which in the future are important for establishing the circumstances of the crime. To date, methods for determining the growth of a person in her footsteps are obsolete and need improvement, taking into account the current trends in human development, which depend on sociological and environmental factors.

Aim: is to review the existing methods used in modern practice to determine the approximate height of a person, her footprints (legs), analysis of the results and improvement of the most effective method.

To test the effectiveness of the most common methods for determining the height of human, we conducted an experiment in which 1080 people aged from 17 to 35 years took part. Each participant in the experiment measured height, length and foot width, hip circumference, hip length, shin length. Also, the physical development of a person and the influence on the physical development of social and environmental factors were taken into account (the measurements were carried out twice, in 2017-2018, and the variation of the changes during the year was analyzed).

It has been established that the most effective method for calculating the approximate height of a person behind the trailing bare feet is the ratio of the length of the leg (from foot to thigh), the length of the leg and the hip circumference. On average, the length of the leg (from foot to thigh) is equal to 3.1 foot length; the length of the leg is equal to 4 foot width; The average hip volume is 53 cm. A new formula was also introduced with the probability of establishing a person’s height following the footprints (within an error of ± 3 cm) of 67 % .
