Abstract

Consideration is given to the features of marking the ammunition caliber for hand firearms in imperial (inch) and metric systems, basic variants of cartridge designation according to outdated standards as well as the brand codes of ammunition of the largest European manufacturers of the late XIX early XX century. The paper gives a brief overview of international system formation stages for standardizing ammunition according to C.I.P. and SAAMI systems.
